Shuri Castle Castle
Built in the 15th Century, Shuri Castle was a symbol of a united Okinawa. The first king was Sho-hashi who founded the Sho-dynasty in 1429 on Okinawa. The castle functioned for 450 years until the reformations of the Meiji Era in Japan.
The castle is a popular tourist attraction. The castle has unique look and many individual points of interest. It is a bright red with gold ornamentation with lattice work with many unique dragons. The interior of the castle features the kings court and royal memorabilia. There is an ancient sun-dial, ancient lake which is the site of a Buddhist prayer shrine. There are dance festivals held periodically at the castle with large performances with many dancers.
